Mauricio Zelaya

Dr. Zelaya is an accomplished economist experienced in econometrics and statistical modelling for both private and public sector clients. He specializes in the economics of innovation, industrial organization, and, more generally, the application of economic theory to real business issues.

His work in this area spans numerous industries, from the public sector and finance to advance manufacturing and agriculture. He is also an active member of the academic community, having numerous academic publications on topics related to foreign direct investment attraction and innovation, while also concurrently a faculty member and sessional lecturer of graduate economics and international business courses at the Schulich School of Business at York University.

Dr. Zelaya is currently EY Canada’s National Economic Advisory leader. His portfolio of services includes economic impact and market studies, FDI attraction strategies, and international trade assessments, among a range of other topics. Dr. Zelaya and his team have worked with Protein Industries Canada since 2020 to develop the Global Market Forecast and Competitiveness Study for Canadian Plant-Based Proteins.
