Dustyn Lanz

Dustyn Lanz is a Senior Advisor with ESG Global Advisors Inc. and a leader in Canada’s responsible investment industry. He was previously Chief Executive Officer of the Responsible Investment Association (RIA), and he is regularly quoted in the media as an expert on ESG and sustainable finance by the Globe and Mail, CBC News, BNN Bloomberg, Investment Executive, Wealth Professional, and other media outlets in Canada and internationally.

Dustyn is also a prolific writer and public speaker. He writes columns and op-eds for Investment Executive and the Globe & Mail, and his academic writing has been published by think tanks and peer-reviewed journals. Dustyn is a regular panellist and moderator at industry events, and he delivers guest lectures at leading Canadian universities.

In 2021, Dustyn co-developed Climate Engagement Canada – a coalition of 29 institutional investors managing over $3.6 trillion that engages with Canada’s highest-emitting corporations to promote a just transition to a net-zero economy. In 2020, Dustyn led the development of the Canadian Investor Statement on Diversity & Inclusion – an anti-racism pledge signed by 45 institutional investors managing over $4 trillion in assets.

In 2021, Dustyn led a successful engagement with the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada to amend its regulations to position investors’ ESG preferences within the scope of financial advisors’ Know Your Client responsibilities. He also successfully engaged with the federal government to include provisions for sustainable finance within the Mandate Letter of the Minister of Finance.

In 2021, Dustyn received a Changemaker award from the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business. In 2018, he was featured in Wealth Professional Magazine’s “Hot List” of 50 influencers in Canada’s investment industry, and in 2016 he received a Clean50 Emerging Leader Award for contributions to sustainable development under the age of 35.

Prior to entering the investment industry in 2013, Dustyn worked with the Centre for International Governance Innovation where he conducted research and made policy recommendations to strengthen the governance of the global financial system. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Honours, Summa Cum Laude) from York University and a Master of Arts in Global Governance from the Balsillie School of International Affairs at the University of Waterloo.
